The Innovation District

Downtown Canton’s Innovation District is designed to lead the way in the city’s revitalization — a place where you can accelerate and grow your business in the heart of downtown. It brings together high-speed connectivity, supportive infrastructure, and a collaborative community so entrepreneurs, startups, and growing companies can turn ideas into reality.

What the Downtown Canton Innovation District Offers

The Downtown Canton Innovation District provides a fertile atmosphere for creative thinking, entrepreneurial opportunities, and commercialized innovation. Businesses in the district benefit from:

World-class Connectivity

The district offers some of the fastest gigabit internet connections available anywhere, including direct access to OARnet and The Ohio State University supercomputer. This level of connectivity is ideal for companies that rely on complex data analytics, high-volume data transfer, or tech-focused operations.

High-Tech Infrastructure

Businesses have access to the platform, tools, and infrastructure they need to refine, test, and grow their ideas. From digital infrastructure to flexible workspaces, the district is built to support innovation at every stage.

Rent subsidies

Some new tenants may qualify for financial assistance with their rent. That means more of their budget can go toward building products, hiring talent, and growing their business instead of just covering overhead.

Networking & community

Beyond day-to-day coworker interaction, the district is envisioned as a regional home for networking events. It’s a place where businesses can share ideas, gain feedback, and learn from other visionaries who are also building in the district.

Your creative space

The Innovation District is intentionally designed to foster collaboration and open dialogue. Tenants share expertise, resources, and energy, creating an environment where innovative ideas can grow faster because people are learning from each other.

Innovation District Leadership Network

A leadership network made up of community and regional partners helps champion the district. This includes leaders from the City of Canton and Stark County government, representatives from seven local higher education institutions, Visit Canton, Canton City School District, and the Canton and Stark County Chambers of Commerce. Together, they help guide marketing and outreach for the district using their deep knowledge of the community and region.

Media partnership with the Canton Repository

The district is working with the Canton Repository on a series of stories about the Innovation District — starting with an overview of the district and followed by spotlights on businesses already benefiting from being part of it.

The District in Downtown Canton

The Downtown Canton Innovation District is positioned as the region’s leading provider of business benefits and incentives. Businesses that choose to locate in one of the 47 buildings across the 12-block district gain access to gigabit connectivity and potential rent subsidies in a walkable, creative urban environment.

The district is intentionally designed to:

  • Attract promising business visionaries
  • Support innovative products and services
  • Foster creativity and collaboration
  • Strengthen Canton and the surrounding region through new economic activity

A Home for Startups and Growing Companies

If you’re:

  • A young company or startup
  • Someone with a strong idea you’d like to turn into a business
  • An emerging company searching for affordable, inventive workspace

The Downtown Canton Innovation District is positioned as the place to find your ideal space. Within these 12 blocks, some of the region’s best and brightest connect, collaborate, and share strategies that move their businesses — and Canton itself — forward.

Infrastructure Highlight: "Follow the Fiber"

One of the signature advantages of locating in the district is direct access to fiber-powered gigabit internet. By partnering with the City of Canton, the district plans to create wayfinding signage along the fiber route that leads people directly into the 12-block district and a central reception area.

The reception area will:

  • Showcase the speed and power of the fiber connection
  • Offer information and brochures about the district
  • Be supported by a rotating group of volunteers to answer questions and guide visitors

Community & Experience

The district isn’t just offices — it’s also a destination. Entertainment options, such as the Canton Centennial Plaza, the Canton Palace Theatre, and events like First Friday, make the area a walkable celebration of arts, nightlife, and live entertainment in addition to its role as a business hub.
